Confessions of a LaLaChristmas Fest 2007
Friends, did you see Christmas Fest? Of course you did. With all the different viewing options (not to mention the sheer fantastic-ness of it to begin with), how could you not have seen it?
If you didn't, well... a pox on your firstborn! You can just fuck right off. The reason this school has its celebrity status and amazing reputation is because of Fest. You owe it to the hard working students in the music department to even be at a school as wonderful as Olaf.
Do you think there would be as many beautiful perks on this hill if old alumni weren't so obsessed with The Choir? They live and breathe for that shit. Every year they come by the thousands to see the Fest, clad in matching Norwegian sweaters. Even before they come into the gym (there will be a future article about the audacity of us performing in Skoglund) they're ready to whip out their check books and slap a bunch of zeros behind a "1" or a "5". I mean, dear god they can't wait to just sling that shit at us as if it ensures that it makes us anymore talented!
The thing is, there were a jillion people that saw Christmas Fest this year (hope you were one of them). You could kick it old school and come in person to one of the four performances we give or you could, as always, wait in the comfort of your home and catch us on PBS (we aired several times throughout the Christmas season). A third option would be most convenient if you were a heavy commuter. You see, not only did PBS/TPT air us on TV, but NPR was kind enough to throw on us the radio. So if you were in your car at all around Christmas, I just know you were tuned to NPR, rocking out to Olaf-apalooza.
BUT WAIT! There's MORE! Not only do you have 4 live performances to go to, at least 10 TV airings, and several radio broadcasts of Fest, but there's a NEW and improved way to view Christmas Fest. Perhaps you've heard of it? A sweet ass SIMULCAST? Now, for the first time ever, people all around the country that couldn't travel out, or weren't lucky enough to get tickets can hop into their cars (listen to the broadcast on the way), and plop in a comfy theater seat with a bucket-o-popcorn and an Icee to sit and enjoy Christmas Fest.
All these amazing opportunities mean there was absolutely NO excuse for you to not see your fellow Oles in this year's Christmas Fest to support them and to gain a cultural experience that you will certainly never forget...
Soon to come: St. Olaf Christmas Fest 2007: how you can order the CDs and DVDs and relive the amazing experience over and over and over again.
